Dimitri Karcazes is a principal in the firm's Bankruptcy & Creditors' Rights Group. Mr. Karcazes primarily represents lenders in the protection and enforcement of creditors' rights. He is involved in all aspects of commercial workouts and bankruptcies, including restructurings, reorganizations, sales and liquidations. His experience includes bankruptcies, out-of-court workouts and assignments for the benefit of creditors. He has considerable experience with high-yield, distressed debt, intercreditor and subordinated debt matters. He has handled transactions and cases throughout the United States and in Canada, Mexico and the European Union. Mr. Karcazes has developed significant expertise with respect to asbestos-related bankruptcies and has represented a variety of clients in this area. He co-authored an article published in the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review, "From Free-Fall to Free-For-All: The Rise of Pre-Packaged Asbestos Bankruptcies." Mr. Karcazes is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy and commercial finance issues. His most recent presentation at the INSOL Europe Annual Conference in Monaco, dealt with cross-border insolvencies and Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy Code. He has also given recent presentations on debtor-in-possession financing, asbestos bankruptcies and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation and participated as a panelist for a Chicago Bar Association seminar, "Buying and Selling Distressed Assets." Mr. Karcazes was appointed a commissioner from the State of Illinois to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. In such capacity, he serves on the committee to harmonize the laws of the United States, Mexico and Canada with respect to the Convention on the Assignment of Receivables in International Trade and he also serves on the committee drafting a Uniform Statutory Trust Entity Act.
Mr. Karcazes was elected Phi Beta Kappa while earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago.
