Diego Arria is a Special Adviser to the Secretary General of the United Nations and a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University. Diego currently serves in the advisory boards of Unilever (Latin America), The International Center for Ethics Justice and Public Life at Brandeis University, The Latin American Advisor of the Inter American Dialogue, The Institute of the Americas at the University of California in San Diego and The Chairman's Council of the Americas Society. Diego served as the Ambassador of Venezuela to the United Nations and was President of the UN Security Council. Diego has also served previously as Senior officer of the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC, Advisor to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), President of The Habitat Foundation, Governor of Caracas, Congressman and Minister of Information and Tourism of Venezuela, CEO of the Centro Simon Bolivar (the urban development agency of Caracas), Founding Editor of Diario de Caracas, Visiting Diplomatic Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in NY, board member of the International Peace Academy in NY, Senior Consultant to BellSouth International and Chairman of Technology Holdings International. Diego studied Economic and Political Sciences in Venezuela and at the University of Michigan. He writes frequently for newspapers in the United States and Latin America. Diego lectures on international issues, and is a regular commentator on United Nations issues in BBC and CNN. |
