With a passion for developing the potential in women, Dianne Mooney has helped change the face of leadership in America. This passion served as the driving force for the creation of a direct sales division of Southern Progress Corporation. As Vice President of Business Development in the late '90s, Dianne had a vision for bringing the pages of Southern Living to life in homes across America through direct selling. She now serves as Founder, Senior Vice President, and leader of Southern Living At HOME, whose national independent Consultant base numbers 35,000 strong.
Her career with Southern Progress spans 30 years and is distinguished by the creation and implementation of numerous successful business ventures. In 1995 she earned the Time Inc. President's Award for her work in custom publishing and was recognized a second time with the Time Inc. President's Award in 2004 for her work in direct sales.
In addition to her career success, she is deeply involved in community work. Currently on the Board of the United Way of Central Alabama, she also serves on several other local nonprofit boards that focus on enhancing the lives of women and girls. In 2001 Dianne, along with other board members of The Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham, was instrumental in creating CUT IT OUT, a statewide program that mobilized salon professionals to fight domestic abuse. Dianne envisioned taking the program national in 2002 and secured partners to help ensure its success. The National Cosmetology Association and Clairol Professional are now funding partners with Southern Living At HOME in CUT IT OUT Salons Against Domestic Abuse, building awareness of domestic abuse and training salon professionals to refer clients to sources for safety.
Dianne has been recognized as one of Birmingham's Top 10 Women in 2002 and in 2003 was named Woman of the Year by the Birmingham Business Journal. "Dianne walks her talk," said Frances Pace Putnam of that publication. She was also named Alabama Public Health Hero for 2004 by the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama. In addition Dianne received the "Vision for Tomorrow Award" from the Direct Sales Association in 2004 on behalf of Southern Living At HOME for her leadership in initiating and implementing the national launch of CUT IT OUT.
A member of the Birmingham-Southern College Norton Board of Advisors, Dianne was educated at The Katherine Gibbs School and at Cornell University. She is married to William Mooney Jr. and is active in both church and community music. A native of New Castle, Pennsylvania, Dianne has two grown children, Jeff and Loren, a granddaughter, Margaux, and a grandson, Oliver. |
