Professional Experience
Prior to joining Huron Derek was Director of Client Services for an eProcurement software and services company responsible for several large eProcurement initiatives and the development and implementation of supplier management programs.
Since joining Huron Derek has focused on higher education clients and has led multiple strategic sourcing and procurement transformation engagements.

Conducted an overall procurement assessment and strategic procurement planning effort for a Midwest public university. The scope of this effort included an assessment of vision/objectives organization technology and processes recommendations for a desired future state and specific actionable steps to achieve their objectives. These findings led to an engagement to implement multiple initiatives including eProcurement strategic sourcing process improvements and organizational development.
Led an initiative at a large public research university in the southeast. This initiative included two phases of strategic sourcing as well as classroom and hands on methodology training. Savings of 9-39% were achieved across multiple commodities including IT hardware scientific supplies office products copiers courier MRO copy services audio/visual equipment and temporary services.
Conducted an overall procurement assessment and strategic sourcing diagnostic for a southeast public university. Provided recommendations and an implementation plan related to organization processes and technology to help the university move towards best practices in procurement. Also assisted the university in achieving savings through strategic sourcing for one major commodity area.
Directed an overall procurement assessment for a large west coast research university to determine if the eProcurement strategy it had been following for two years was on track to meet its best practice objectives. The final report recommended that a mid-course correction was needed. This led to program management implementation assistance for this campus-wide initiative.
Led a comprehensive strategic sourcing project for a large southeastern public university. Significant savings were achieved across multiple commodity areas including office supplies copiers IT hardware network equipment scientific supplies MRO and courier services. This initiative also included heavy emphasis on knowledge transfer of strategic sourcing methodology to client resources.
Led a campus-wide strategic sourcing effort which achieved recurring annual savings of more than $5 M for a top private research university in areas of IT hardware scientific supplies furniture copy services copiers telecommunication services and equipment copy services medical supplies courier services and software.
