Dr. Goodman was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and graduated cum laude from the University of Cape Town Medical School in 1979. He completed his internship at Grootte Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, the same hospital where the first heart transplant was performed by Dr. Christian Barnard in 1968. He was appointed Chief Medical Resident at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh where he completed his internal medicine residency from 1981 to 1984. He completed his cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, during which time he was closely associated with the cardiac surgery program under Dr. Michael Debakey (1984-1987), the father of modern cardiovascular surgery. He served as the Chief of Cardiology and Medical Director of Cardiac Treatment Center at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California from 2002-2005. In addition to currently practicing at Scripps, he is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Goodman is on the board of governors of the American Heart Association®. and previously served on the American Board of Cardiology (California). He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology and Critical Care. |
