Debra M. Patalkis is a partner in the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group and a member of the Securities and Corporate Governance Litigation Team. She previously served as assistant chief litigation counsel, Division of Enforcement, for the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Debra is an experienced litigator and counselor in both government work and private practice. She has litigated a variety of cases in the government arena and has defended complex civil matters in the private sector. While at the SEC, Debra was responsible for enforcement actions brought by the commission in federal and administrative courts, including cases involving financial fraud, insider trading, market manipulation, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations, Ponzi schemes and unregistered offerings. She also advised the commission and the Division of Enforcement head office and investigative staff; developed and evaluated major investigations; made charging recommendations to the commission; and participated in parallel criminal proceedings with federal, state and international authorities. She also served as a NITA instructor for the Enforcement Division’s testimony seminars. In private practice, Debra has represented national and multinational corporations, news organizations and major insurance and reinsurance companies in complex federal and state litigation.
In General. Debra received her bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Rutgers University in 1981 and her J.D., magna cum laude, from New York Law School in 1985. She is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and the District of Columbia. |
