Dr. Smith brings more than 15 years of manufacturing, technology transfer, quality control and research and development expertise to the Company. Most recently, he served as Vice President, Manufacturing at 454 Life Sciences, Inc. where he was responsible for building and leading the Company’s next generation sequencing instrument and reagent manufacturing operations. In May, 2007, 454 Life Sciences was acquired by Roche Holdings, Inc. Prior to his tenure at 454, Smith was Vice President, Manufacturing Technology for Affymetrix, Inc. where he led chip design operations, reagent operations and quality control and process development functions, and drove several successful projects including scale-up of reagent operations and the commercialization of Affymetrix’s expression profiling product line. Smith earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Arizona and completed his post-doctoral work at the University of California, Santa Cruz and the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. He has a B.S. in Chemistry from North Central College. |
