As National Instruments vice president general counsel and corporate secretary David Hugley manages the increasing legal responsibilities of NI both in the United States and around the world.
Hugley's primary focus on corporate and securities law ensures that NI complies with federal and international regulations. In 1995 Hugley played a key role in transitioning NI from a privately owned business to a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ stock exchange. Today he and his team monitor NI compliance with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission regulations.
Since joining NI in 1991 Hugley has managed the administrative and legal obligations of the company in the creation of branch offices R&D facilities and manufacturing sites in more than 40 countries. In 2001 he played a pivotal role in the creation of NI Hungary - from managing the purchase and zoning of the land to securing utility rights for the facility. Located in Debrecen east of Budapest NI Hungary broke ground in June 2001 and became operational five months later. The 144 000 square foot facility the first overseas manufacturing site for NI produces computer circuit boards for measurement and automation.
Besides NI Hungary Hugley and his team maintain NI subsidiaries and branches in more than 40 countries and manage customs and import matters as well as U.S. export control. Hugley and his team also oversee software licensing worldwide.
Another important aspect of Hugley's job involves managing and enforcing NI intellectual property including 280 patents and numerous trademarks. This includes the development of intellectual property through R&D in China Germany India Romania and the U.S.
Hugley also directs legal issues pertaining to acquisitions and other NI business transactions around the world. Since joining NI Hugley has overseen numerous acquisitions including three in 2005.
Hugley joined NI in 1991 as general counsel and became corporate secretary in 1996. He was promoted to vice president in 2003. Hugley received a bachelor's degree in finance and his degree in jurisprudence from The University of Texas at Austin. |
