Mr. Carlick is widely recognized as a thought-leader for online media and marketing. He has been a venture investor in online marketing companies since the mid-1990s. Earlier, he built Carlick Advertising into one of Silicon Valley's largest independent agencies, serving venture backed startups such as Cypress Semiconductor and Silicon Graphics, as well as international corporations including Toshiba America. The agency and its Database Marketing Group were acquired by Bozell Worldwide unit Poppe Tyson in 1993. Mr. Carlick led the creation of Poppe Tyson's interactive marketing group (poppe.com), an online marketing pioneer serving companies such as Netscape, Chrysler, eTrade, T. Rowe Price, Merrill Lynch, and Cadillac. Poppe Tyson later merged with, and went public as, Modem Media Poppe Tyson (NASDAQ: MMPT). At Poppe Tyson, Mr. Carlick was also an early co-founder of DoubleClick, which was subsequently spun off and went public (NASDAQ: DCLK). He was also a founding Director of International Network Services and served through the initial public offering, as well as the eventual acquisition by Lucent Technologies. He was also a founding Director of I/Pro, the first online auditing company which was acquired by CMGI; and Director of Big Book, the first online yellow page offering, which was acquired by Verizon. Mr. Carlick was a director of Ask Jeeves (NASDAQ: ASKJ) from 2001 through its 2005 acquisition by Interactive Corp (IACI). He was Chairman of Intermix Media, parent of MySpace.com, through its acquisition by News Corp in 2005.
