David W. Florence is the Founder and Chairman of Direct Media, a leading mailing list broker and manager. Direct Media is headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut with offices in Chicago, San Francisco and Toronto.
Mr. Florence started his career with IBM as a salesman in their Data Processing Division. He entered direct marketing by opening a New York office for National Business Lists and started List Management, Inc. in 1967. At that time, there was only one other mailing list manager in the country. In 1969, he founded Direct Media.
Mr. Florence is generally credited with starting the first public mailing list database in 1971. He is a former director of the Advertising Mail Marketing Association and of the Direct Marketing Association. He is a Trustee of the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation. In 1993 he received the DMA List Leader of the Year Award and in 1987 he received the Direct Marketing Club of New York Silver Apple Award. In October 2004 he was inducted into the DMA Hall of Fame.
Mr. Florence is a graduate of Dartmouth College and has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Columbia University. Between Dartmouth and Columbia, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. |
