Dave Byler joined Suncor Energy in 1979, beginning his career in the planning and economics area of exploration and production in Calgary. In January 2000, he was appointed executive vice president, Natural Gas, and in January 2002, accepted the added responsibility of Renewable Energy.
Dave is the 2006 Management Alumni Excellence (MAX) Award recipient from the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business. The award recognizes personal achievement and extraordinary service to the business school and to the community.

This business is engaged in the exploration, development and production of natural gas and renewable energy resources in North America.
In addition to his accountability for natural gas and renewable energy, in April 2003 Dave undertook a major three-year initiative called Project Cornerstone, which integrated and changed many of Suncor’s business processes.
Before establishing himself in his current role, Dave had the opportunity to work in all segments of Suncor’s business and gained a broad understanding of exploration, information technologies, finance, human resources and risk management.
Born in Calgary, Dave prepared for a career in business by completing a bachelor of commerce degree at the University of Calgary.
Dave is the chair of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers’ CEO Task Group on Climate Change, and an executive member of the Clean Air Strategic Alliance (CASA).
