David M. Sherbin, 47, is vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer for Delphi Corporation. His responsibilities as chief compliance officer include corporate oversight and adherence to corporate standards as well as enforcing formal compliance controls and established processes. Sherbin also serves as the company's chief compliance officer and is a member of the Delphi Strategy Board, the company's top policy-making group.
In 1987, Sherbin began his legal career as an associate at the Chicago law firm of Katten Muchin & Zavis. In 1988, he took a leave from the firm to become Midwest general counsel of the Dukakis for President Committee. In 1992, Sherbin joined Heller Financial, Inc. as counsel in the corporate finance group, and in 1994 became senior counsel for corporate affairs.
In 1997, he joined Federal-Mogul Corporation as assistant general counsel and in 1999 became corporate secretary. In 2000, he was promoted to vice president, deputy general counsel and secretary. In 2003, he was named senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, where his responsibilities included managing the worldwide legal affairs for Federal-Mogul, as well as its Chapter 11 financial restructuring in the United States and its administration in the United Kingdom. Sherbin also served as the company's chief compliance officer.
In 2005, Sherbin became vice president, general counsel and secretary for Pulte Homes, Inc., based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. He was named to his current position on October 31, 2005.
Sherbin earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History, with honors, from Oberlin College in 1981 and his J.D. from Cornell University Law School in 1987.
Sherbin has spoken extensively on corporate governance and securities law issues. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Center for Civic Education.
