David Solomon was named Vice President, Area Operations for the New York Metro Area in January 1998. In this role, Solomon, a 44-year postal veteran, reports to the Deputy Postmaster General and Chief Operating Officer and is the senior postal official in an area that encompasses the five Boroughs of New York City, Long Island, Westchester and several other counties in the lower Hudson Valley, New York, most of New Jersey, as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. He is responsible for all postal operations including mail processing and distribution, logistics, sales and marketing, customer service and administrative operations in almost 2,000 postal facilities.
Earlier, Solomon served as manager of operations support for New York Metro, starting in 1994. Previously, he was manager of operations programs support for the New York Metro Area and director of station operations in the old New York Division, where he was responsible for all mail delivery and customer services in the Boroughs of Manhattan and The Bronx, New York.
Solomon started his postal career as a substitute clerk/carrier in New York City in 1962. He also has spent six years at Postal Service headquarters in Washington, DC, in a variety of assignments.
Solomon is a graduate of Herbert Lehman College and holds a Master of Science degree from Iona College. He also has studied management at Cornell, Duke and the University of Virginia.
