Dr. Longworth is responsible for the clinical, educational and scholarly operations and strategy for the Department of Medicine. Prior to assuming the position of Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Baystate Medical Center and Professor and Deputy Chairman, Department of Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine, Dr. Longworth served as Chairman of the Department of Infectious Diseases at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. He has published numerous articles in scientific journals and book chapters; he has also edited 4 textbooks. Dr. Longworth received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College of New York in 1978. He was a medical intern at the University of California at the San Francisco, California H.C. Moffitt Affiliated Hospitals from 1978 to 1979, and a junior and senior medical resident at the H.C. Moffitt Affiliated Hospitals from 1979 to 1981. He went on to a clinical fellowship in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Brigham and Women's and Beth Israel Hospitals at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts from 1982 to 1983 and a research fellowship in the Division of Infectious Disease at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts from 1983 to 1985. |
