David Rees has been representing clients in complex cases since he joined the firm in 1994. David has developed special expertise in class actions, including securities, antitrust, environmental, employment and consumer cases. He also has experience representing clients in customer-securities broker disputes, insurance coverage issues, contract and real property disputes, and accounting malpractice cases. David has tried cases in state and federal courts, and in arbitration.
David is currently serving on the Board of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association and the Oregon State Bar Procedures and Practice Committee. He also serves on the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association's Amicus Committee, and is the former chair of the Oregon State Bar Pro Bono Committee. In 2006, David was recognized by the Portland Business Journal as one of the 40 Under 40, which identifies younger leaders in the Portland business community.
When he is not working, David enjoys surfing, running and playing ball with his wife and four-year-old son.

Securities Class Action:
Served as co-lead counsel for a national class of investors alleging securities fraud against a public assisted-living company and its accounting and audit firm. Case resulted in recoveries of $43.5 million for investors, including $13.5 million recovery against the accounting firm, one of the largest recoveries against an accounting firm in Oregon history.
Breach of Contract:
Represented an insured forced to sue an insurance carrier for coverage in defense of an underlying liability claim. Carrier ultimately conceded coverage and tendered the policy limits.
Environmental:
Served as lead trial counsel in case against multinational mining company that was discharging toxic emissions over the homes of numerous residents of a small Oregon city. First "test case" settled during trial and remainder of case settled shortly thereafter.
Consumer Class Action:
Drafted and coordinated all class certification briefings in five cases on behalf of consumers under The Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Business Torts:
Served as lead trial attorney for developer who was sued for negligent development of a coastal residential subdivision. Case settled favorably prior to trial and ultimately settlement and all defense costs were funded by client's liability carrier who had previously disputed coverage.
Intellectual Property:
Served as co-lead arbitration counsel in international trade secret dispute litigated in front of technical special master and arbitrator. The case involved extensive technical and engineering issues, as well as hotly disputed factual issues. Findings of special master and arbitrator fully vindicated client's co-development of technology and rights to use the co-developed technology.
