Dr. Shaw serves as Chairman of the managing member of D. E. Shaw Technology Ventures, LLC, which is in turn the managing member of Attenuon. D. E. Shaw Technology Ventures is a member of the D. E. Shaw group, a specialized investment and technology development firm whose activities center on various aspects of the intersection between technology and finance. Dr. Shaw is also the Chairman of the Schrödinger companies, which produce computer software used in drug discovery. The author of 90 scholarly publications, Dr. Shaw received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1980 and served on the faculty of the Computer Science Department at Columbia University until 1986, when he joined Morgan Stanley & Co. as a Vice President. In 1994, Dr. Shaw was appointed by President Clinton to the President's Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology. Dr. Shaw is also the Treasurer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the Executive Committee of the Council on Competitiveness. |
