Daniel P. Reilly joined the firm in 2003 as an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group. Prior to attending law school, Dan worked as an environmental engineer.
Intellectual Property Counseling. Dan counsels clients in a wide variety of intellectual property matters, including preparing and prosecuting patents in a range of art areas that include agricultural products, chemical engineering, environmental treatment/remediation, medical devices, medical treatments, oral care products, packaging material, printing and telecommunications. His counseling also includes advising clients regarding issues of portfolio management, clearance, patentability, ownership and validity of intellectual property assets.
In counseling clients, Dan utilizes his prior engineering and construction experience. For example, he utilized his engineering experience in assisting an accused patent infringer in retrofitting a large scale chemical process to avoid infringement. He utilized his construction experience in counseling a manufacturer of building supplies on copyright registration and infringement matters.
Intellectual Property Litigation. Dan has been a team member on numerous intellectual property litigation matters, with a specific emphasis on patent litigation. On the patent litigation matters, Dan has been involved in all aspects of the litigations, and, on several occasions, been the lead on issues of claim construction, validity/invalidity, infringement/non-infringement and inequitable conduct.
Construction/Engineering Experience. As an environmental engineer, Dan worked as a design engineer on a number of Federal Superfund sites, including the remediation of creosote contaminated properties in central New Jersey, and the remediation of radiologically-contaminated streets and properties in northern New Jersey. Dan also worked as a design engineer on an upgrade of a county wastewater treatment plant and as a project engineer for the design of a system to remediate chemically contaminated groundwater and soil. As a design and project engineer, Dan was responsible for developing workable remediation strategies, preparing detailed engineering plans and specifications, and preparing cost estimates. In addition, Dan also worked as a field engineer for the construction oversight at a Federal Superfund site, where he reviewed contractor submittals and monitored construction progress and quality. |
