Business Litigation
Since 1993, Mr. Owen has developed extensive jury trial experience that spans Kansas and Missouri, state and federal courts, and a wide variety of civil and criminal matters. Much of his jury trial work has involved technical subjects such as computer software, bridges, cranes, building design, automotive engines and agricultural machinery. He is a former computer programmer, who has extensive experience preparing and trying computer-related cases, and has represented both software companies and their customers.

Plaintiff Litigation: Dan Owen primarily represents plaintiffs in class actions (wage and hour, warranty and consumer protection matters), computer-related business litigation and serious personal injury matters. His experience includes:
Computer litigation: Mr. Owen worked as a computer programmer and mainframe computer operator for four years prior to law school and his technical knowledge is a competitive asset in computer litigation. His defense clients have included:
The developers of point of sale software, medical records software and database software, including Fugitsu, ICL, and Empower Consultants.
Software developers who were accused of causing system failures.
Plaintiff actions against IBM, Oracle and Microsoft.
Plaintiff software development companies, including BV Solutions Group, Overlap, Inc. and Ergo Systems in a variety of software-related claims.
Serious personal injury, including injured plaintiffs in:
Claims against manufacturers of automobiles, cranes and farm equipment.
Medical negligence cases, auto accidents and premises liability cases.
Claims against Marriott for a breach of security resulting in an attack on the plaintiff.
Criminal law: Mr. Owen served as an elected County Prosecutor for Jefferson County, Kansas, from 1993-97, where he received extensive training in arson investigation and prosecution. Since joining the Firm, he has used his extensive criminal law experience to advise clients in a variety of criminal matters and has successfully tried a lengthy criminal defense case in which arson was alleged.
State of Kansas administrative arena: Mr. Owen has represented clients before the Kansas Corporation Commission in utility rate matters. He also practices frequently before the Kansas Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control in alcohol licensing matters.
