Dr Danie Cronjé has been Chairman of the Absa Group since 1997. He joined what is today known as Absa in 1975 and held various positions at Volkskas Merchant Bank and Volkskas Group. Prior to his appointment as Chairman, he was Chief Executive and, subsequently, Group Chief Executive of Absa until 1997. He is also Chairman of Sage Group Limited and a director of both KWV Group Limited and Idion Technology Holdings Limited. He is Chairman of the Absa Foundation and a trustee of the Absa Group Retirement Fund. Dr Danie Cronjé became a non executive director on September 1st 2005, following Barclays acquisition of Absa in July 2005.
