Dana’s career boils down to the three Ps: policy, politics and public relations. Her experience runs the gamut from consulting on social and environmental issues to developing media relations plans to writing corporate responsibility reports. Her approach to positioning and strategic planning: immersion and in-depth collaboration with clients. When Dana came on board as an account director, she was not a new face at Capstrat. She previously worked with us as a senior account executive, developing strategic communications, grassroots advocacy and media relations plans for clients like Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. What drew Dana away from Capstrat? Valuable experience at Progress Energy specializing in environmental and policy communications. She worked with top executives to monitor environmental and energy-efficiency activities and prepare key messages, white papers and employee communications materials. She also served as a media spokesperson on company-related issues and in crisis situations. In addition, Dana wrote and edited the annual environmental report, corporate responsibility report and the company’s climate change report to shareholders. Her work at Progress Energy gave her key insight into corporate social responsibility in today’s business world. Much of Dana’s government relations and policy expertise comes from her time as a policy analyst and press aide for former Governor Jim Hunt. She coordinated strategy, grassroots outreach and rapid response plans specifically focused on education issues. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dana majored in journalism and political science. She received the James F. Hurley Bicentennial Merit Scholarship. |
