Description of Practice:
Dana Schiffman is a partner in the firm's San Diego office. He is an authority on commercial real estate law whose practice encompasses a full range of issues with special emphasis on shopping center development, expansion and redevelopment. Mr. Schiffman is an expert on acquisition, development, leasing and financing matters associated with regional malls, specialty, power and neighborhood shopping centers and commercial mixed-use projects. He also provides expert counsel on a variety of environmental matters relating to the purchase, leasing and sale of commercial properties. Mr. Schiffman's clients include some of the nation's leading real estate and retail companies. On the environmental front, Mr. Schiffman has broad experience in coordinating and directing environmental due diligence investigation on behalf of owners, lenders and developers and negotiating and documenting the allocation of risks of known and unknown environmental liabilities. On the financing front, he has worked with pension funds and other institutional lenders as well as redevelopment agencies to negotiate financing for the development, construction and expansion of large and small retail centers and mixed-use projects. On the development and leasing fronts, Mr. Schiffman's expertise includes the preparation and negotiation of various redevelopment agency agreements, construction and architect agreements, shopping center and industrial/business park CC&Rs and REAs and leases both for and against major retailers and anchor tenants.
As an associate member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), Mr. Schiffman serves on the planning committee of the organization's San Diego Chapter and has participated as a speaker in various ICSC presentations and programs. He has lectured and authored various articles on development and environmental matters associated with shopping center ownership, development and tenancy.
He is a member of the State Bar of California and served a two-year term as co-chair of the Environmental Law Subsection of the Real Property Section. He is also a member of the American and the San Diego County Bar Associations.
Educational History:
Mr. Schiffman was educated at the University of California, Los Angeles where he graduated with a B.A. in economics and a B.S. in biology, summa cum laude. He also received his J.D. and an MBA from UCLA. |
