Dana Marshall is a seasoned business executive with both venture-backed technology and Fortune 500 aerospace and defense company experience. Dana possesses extensive experience managing the development and application of laser and optics technologies in military and industrial/scientific markets. He combines accomplishment in both large and small growth companies and brings a detailed understanding and demonstrated accomplishment in technologies and industries relevant to Ionotron's developing products and partnerships. He is well grounded in both government and DoD business, having spent the first twelve years of his career in a variety of roles at the headquarters of both General Dynamics and McDonnell Douglas Corporations.
Dana Marshall earned his Engineering degree from the University of Michigan, and joined General Dynamics as an Engineer, rapidly advancing into Program Management and Strategic Planning roles at GD’s Corporate Headquarters. There he was responsible for strategic, operating, and new business planning and development for missile, electronics, laser, and submarine divisions and programs. After several years he joined the newly organized McDonnell Douglas Electronic Systems Company managing solid-state and semiconductor laser programs with both military and commercial market objectives.
In the fall of 1992 Dana founded Cutting Edge Optronics, Inc. (CEO). He built CEO into a leading developer and manufacturer of high power solid state and semiconductor lasers, with special emphasis on high power lasers for industrial and military installations. CEO Inc. was recognized as one of the Fast 50 fastest growing small businesses for four consecutive years (1997 -2000) and was the SBA Small Business Exporter of the Year for Missouri in 1995, with major programs ongoing in Japan and Europe. CEO’s customers included a broad array of defense, industrial, medical, and scientific users. CEO was successfully sold to TRW in 2000, and operates today as a laser and electro-optics center of excellence in Northrop Grumman, which acquired TRW.
Most recently Dana served as Vice President for the Optical Systems Strategic Business Unit of Zygo Corporation with operations in Connecticut, Arizona, and California. His units produced precision optics and optical subsystems for defense and aerospace, semiconductor equipment, medical, and laser fusion research customers.
Throughout his professional career Dana has participated in numerous industry associations in a variety of capacities including: President (2001) of the Laser Institute of America, the professional society for laser material processing scientists; and President-elect of the Laser and Electro-Optic Manufacturer’s Association (LEOMA). Marshall served as board member of the St. Louis Enterprise Center, a small business incubator sponsored by the city of St. Louis, from 1996-99. Dana has served on the Board of Directors of Research Electro-Optics of Boulder CO. since 2003. |
