Mr. Alexander was named Executive Vice President and President of the Paper Group effective October 1, 2006. He joined Tembec March 1, 2006 as Sr. VP Coated Papers with total responsibility for the St. Francisville facility. He was engaged as a consultant in January 2005 to evaluate all of the mills within the Paper Group with a particular focus to develop a strategic plan for St. Francisville.
Mr. Alexander has been associated with the paper industry since 1977. He began his career in the industry with Madison Paper as part of the original management team that re-started the shut down mill. He held various positions with Madison Paper including Vice President Marketing with responsibility for the feasibility study which resulting in building a new paper machine in 1980.
In 1984, he formed a group to acquire the paper mill in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario from Abitibi Price creating the new company St. Marys Paper. He served as President & CEO until the mill was sold in 1994. During his tenure the mill’s capacity was doubled with the addition of a new paper machine in 1988.
From 1994 through 2002, Mr. Alexander operated a paper sales brokerage firm which also provided marketing consulting services. In 2003, he formed a group to acquire the mill in Brainerd, Minnesota from Potlatch and converted the mill to the production of uncoated freesheet papers. He served as the President & CEO until the mill was sold to Wausau Paper in the fourth quarter of 2004.
Mr. Alexander is a magna cum laude graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a B.S. in Economic Geography. He has done post graduate work at the University of Oklahoma’s Industrial Development Institute, and the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. He was a founding member of the SC Council, an association of North American and European SC paper companies. He was member of the Premier’s Council of Ontario from 1988 to 1993, an economic advisory body to the Premier of Ontario.
