Damon Thompson has more than 20 years of experience in public relations, public policy, and healthcare advocacy. Damon served as Director of Public Affairs for Surgeon General David Satcher during Satcher’s four-year term that began in 1998. Damon also served as Communications Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Public Health and Science (OPHS), of which the Office of the Surgeon General is a part. He has been a press secretary to two former members of Congress from Arkansas, U.S. Sen. David Pryor and U.S. Rep. Ed Bethune, and has worked as a reporter for The Washington Times, United Press International, The Arkansas Democrat, and The Pine Bluff (Ark.) Commercial.Thompson is a recipient of the Surgeon General’s Exemplary Service Award for exceptional support for the Office of the Surgeon General, the position of Surgeon General, and the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. In 2002, Damon was awarded the Surgeon General’s Medallion, the highest award from the Surgeon General for outstanding work in support of the Office of the Surgeon General.A native of Arkansas, Thompson received a bachelor of journalism degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia. |
