R. Dale Vaughan is president and chief operating officer of Kanawha Insurance Company. In 2004, KMG America Corporation, a public holding company, acquired employee benefit insurer Kanawha Insurance Company and its subsidiary Kanawha HealthCare Solutions, a third party administrator.
Mr. Vaughan has served in this role since February 2005 and has served as president and chief executive officer of Kanawha HealthCare Solutions since 1998. He was executive vice president, Benefits Services for Kanawha from 2003 to 2004, and senior vice president of the division from 1998 to 2003. Mr. Vaughan began his career with Kanawha in 1990 managing the group underwriting function and was given the additional responsibility of leading the company’s third party administrator (TPA) operations, a role he retains.
Previously, Mr. Vaughan served as head of operations for Preferred Plan Administrators in Knoxville, Tennessee and chief group underwriter for Appalachian National Life and Life of Virginia. Mr. Vaughan has been a member of the insurance community since 1975.
Mr. Vaughan received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina and holds the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations. |
