Mr. MacDonald is vice president of Ashland Inc. and president, Ashland China, with responsibility for accelerating Ashland's business development in China. This entails directing new investments and facilitating organic growth by tailoring global business strategies and processes for local execution.
Mr. MacDonald’s career with Ashland has included a variety of assignments with increasing management responsibility. He joined the former Ashland Chemical Company in 1990 as a business development specialist in the Planning and Development department. Between 1992 and 1996, he served as a district manager in Erie, Pa., for Ashland Distribution's plastics business (known at that time as the General Polymers Division) and as a district manager in Chicago, Ill., for the chemicals business (known as the Industrial Chemicals & Solvents Division). In 1996, he became director of sales for the Fine Ingredients business. He assumed responsibility for ingredients source management, marketing and customer support in 1997 before being named general manager of the Fine Ingredients Division in April of 2002. In September, 2002, Distribution implemented a regional organizational structure, and MacDonald was tapped to lead the Midwest Region. A year later, he was named vice president over Distribution's East Region. He was named to his current position in the fall of 2005.
Prior to joining Ashland, MacDonald worked for Dow Chemical Canada where he gained experience as a sales trainee, field sales representative and product marketing manager.
Mr. MacDonald attended Alma College, where he received a bachelor's degree, majoring in biology, with a minor in sociology. |
