Cynthia Carroll was appointed to the Board of BP p.l.c. on 6th June 2007. She is a member of the chairman’s committee. Cynthia Carroll started her career with Amoco, based in Denver, Colorado, as a petroleum geologist in oil exploration. In 1989, she joined Alcan, working in the business development group of the Rolled Products Division in Cleveland, moving to Louisville, Kentucky in 1991 to become vice-president /general manager of Alcan Foil Products. In 1996 she was appointed managing director of Aughinish Alumina Limited, a subsidiary of Alcan Aluminium Limited in Ireland. In 1998, she became president of Bauxite, Alumina and Specialty Chemicals and in 2002 was appointed president and chief executive officer of Alcan’s Primary Metals Group and an officer of Alcan, Inc. in Montreal, Canada. Mrs Carroll was appointed as chief executive of Anglo American plc, the global mining group, in March 2007. She is also a Director of De Beers s.a. |
