Craig C. Moffatt is a partner with Malin, Bergquist & Company, LLP, Erie’s largest certified public accounting firm, and with offices also in Pittsburgh and Greensburg, PA.During his career, Craig has focused on both audit and tax accounting, and has been a certified valuation analyst since 1999. He primarily concentrates on healthcare, manufacturing, transportation and closely held business clients. He has been an accountant in Erie for more than two decades and was a partner with Erie’s Diefenbach Delio Kearney & DeDionisio from 1995 until its 2007 merger with Malin Bergquist.In the healthcare arena, Craig is an auditor for a large regional hospital. In this role, he has helped the client save hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash flow over time through a change in its defined benefit plans, and avoid payment of tens of thousands of dollars in income taxes through an analysis of net operating losses. Craig has guided the hospital’s management of regulatory risk in internal controls, inventory of pharmaceuticals, donor gifts, investments and contracts. His knowledge of the client’s operations and personnel produce ongoing continuity, high efficiency and minimal interruptions. He also assists physicians and medical groups with year-end income analysis and sophisticated tax planning.Craig’s understanding of the manufacturing industry includes conversion of derivative accounting into generally accepted accounting principles for a food producer that hedges against unexpected price fluctuations of raw ingredients.For a trucking transportation company, Craig handles complex tax filing services covering 20 states. By changing a company subsidiary from C to S status, at his suggestion, the client reduced its taxes and helped it mitigate potential Internal Revenue Service concerns.Craig also works closely with a variety of closely held businesses. He answers questions on a daily basis such as whether to lease or buy a vehicle, purchase property, refinance loans and select the best legal entity for company governance. This helps clients limit their liability and save significant cost as well as avoid inaccurate tax filings. Craig received a masters of taxation from the University of Akron in 1991. He holds a masters of business administration from the University of Pittsburgh (1984) and a bachelor of science from Gannon University (1982).Active in the Erie community, Craig has provided a considerable amount of his time as treasurer of the Ecclesia Center, finance board member of Our Lady of Peace, treasurer for Reason for Our Hope and as a corporator of Hamot Health Foundation. He is a member of Kahkwa Country Club. |
