Courtney brings Capstrat clients strategic insight beyond his years. He has honed his skills and acumen on numerous campaigns and community causes. No wonder the National Journal and the political Hotline singled him out as one of the state’s savvy political up and comers. Courtney worked as a district representative in Congressman Bob Etheridge’s office in Raleigh. In 2002 he managed Etheridge’s successful re-election campaign, garnering Etheridge the largest vote percentage he had ever received. Etheridge won nearly two out of every three votes cast in his 10-county district. In 2004, Courtney served as political director for the NC Democratic Party. He most recently worked as the legislative liaison for the NC Department of Insurance and special assistant to Commissioner Jim Long, the longest serving statewide elected official in North Carolina. Deeply involved in the community, Courtney rolls up his sleeves for a wide range of causes, including public safety, affordable housing, the arts, and the state's election system. In the spring of 2004, as a fellow with the American Council of Young Political Leaders, Courtney was one of eight delegates selected nationwide for a political exchange and study program to Indonesia and Malaysia. Courtney graduated cum laude from North Carolina Central University with degrees in English literature and French. He also studied history, politics and society at the University of Oxford and earned a master’s degree from Duke University. |
