Dr. Canavera grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she became aware of her calling to practice medicine at an early age. After attending St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota she received her medical degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine and attended residency at the Family Practice Residency of Idaho. Following her residency, Dr. Canavera moved back to Seattle and completed an additional year of fellowship training in obstetrics through Swedish Family Medicine Residency.
Dr. Canavera has done locums work around the Seattle area and worked for six weeks in a remote Eskimo village in Alaska through the Indian Health Service. Her strong interest in international medicine has led her to volunteer in a mission hospital in the highlands of Papua New Guinea and to work in Africa and Haiti. Her medical interests include full-spectrum family medicine, women’s health and preventive medicine.
Dr. Canavera is passionate about patient education and fostering the patient-physician relationship. She sees Carena as an exciting new model of medicine that affords her the time with patients to do exactly that. I went into medicine to impact patients in a holistic way, addressing not just their physical health but also their emotional, mental, spiritual, and social health, as well. Carena gives me the chance to spend more time with my patients to accomplish this goal. |
