PRO: In an effort to provide young depth along the offensive line, the Dallas Cowboys signed Cory Procter off of the Detroit Lions practice squad on Nov. 29. Procter has experience at both left guard and left tackle, having started games at both spots during his collegiate career at Montana. He originally signed with Detroit following the 2005 NFL Draft but was released at the end of training camp and immediately signed to the Lions practice squad where he remained until signing with Dallas.
2005: After Procter joined the Cowboys he was inactive for his first three games. He was activated for the final two games of the season but did not see any playing time.
COLLEGE: Procter started 42 consecutive games and totaled 47 starts through his collegiate career. As a senior, he earned first-team All-Big Sky Conference and Division 1-AA All-America honors. He was also the winner of Montana's Paul Weskamp Award, given annually to the team's outstanding offensive lineman. As a junior, he started every game at right tackle and was named honorable mention All-Big Sky for the second consecutive season. Procter started every game at left guard as a sophomore and earned honorable mention All-Big Sky accolades for his work. He was thrust into the starting job due to injuries as a true freshman and was part of Montana's Division 1-AA National Championship team in 2001.
PERSONAL: Procter was named all-northwest, all-state, all-area and all-league offensive lineman as a senior at Gig Harbor, Wash., High School. He was a team captain for the football and wresting squads and was voted team MVP in both sports after his junior and senior prep seasons. Upon joining the Cowboys, Procter was included as a member of the the Cowboys 2005 Rookie Club - a program designed to introduce rookie team members to community service in the Dallas area which included work with The Salvation Army, Children's Medical Center Dallas and Meals on Wheels. During the 2006 offseason, Procter got to know the Dallas Cowboys fans by signing autographs and interacting with them at the team's annual NFL Draft Day Party hosted in appreciation of their loyal support. |
