Corwin P. Umbach is a senior attorney in the firm's Chemical Practice Group. His practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, opinion work, and litigation. Prior to joining the firm, he worked for eleven years at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York, first as a post-doctoral fellow and then as a research scientist. He is an author on fifty-eight scientific publications in the areas of nanolithography, solid state devices, and superconductivity, and is an inventor on four U.S. patents.
Dr. Umbach received his Law degree and Master of Intellectual Property degree from the Franklin Pierce Law Center. He holds a Ph.D. in metallurgy materials science and a Master of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota. He received a Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, with distinction in chemistry, from Duke University.
Dr. Umbach is admitted to the Virginia State Bar and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Licensing Executives Society, and the American Bar Association. |
