Constance R. O'Neill is of counsel in the firm’s Chicago office and specializes in civil litigation with an emphasis in medical malpractice, construction litigation and general liability. Ms. O'Neill has served as both first and second chair in numerous medical malpractice trials. Ms. She has extensive experience in medical malpractice litigation and has defended medical malpractice cases at trial involving a variety of medical specialties including emergency medicine, urology, vascular surgery, general surgery and family practice. In addition, Ms. O'Neill has experience defending medical practitioners in other specialties and health care institutions in cases that were resolved prior to trial. Ms. O'Neill also has a broad range in construction accident litigation and has defended many different contractors, architects, subcontractors, owners and engineers. Ms. O'Neill has handled many institutional, commercial, governmental and residential projects. She has handled all phases of the litigation from discovery through trial. In addition, Ms. O'Neill has been instrumental in determining what case is ripe for trial versus a case in which settlement will best serve the client's interest. Her experience in complex litigation gives her the perspective to determine what settlement amount is reasonable and beneficial to the client based on the particular nuances of the case and not simply the dollar amount. She has obtained settlements for her clients which range from negligible amounts to settlement of multi-million dollar cases, all settled to the satisfaction of her clients. Ms. O'Neill has supplemented her trial practice by co-authoring various articles. She was a co-author of "Expert Evidence" for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education, 1989 (supplement, 1992); co-author of "Apparent Agency: How Can Hospitals Combat the Appearance?"
