Environmental and natural resource problems are usually complicated and often technical. I try to serve as an intermediary, helping parties understand each other’s needs and challenges. Conflict resolution comes only when parties, or the courts as necessary, understand the true nature of the problems before them.
Constance is head of the Energy, Natural Resources and Environment Practice Group of the Salt Lake law firm Jones, Waldo, Holbrook & McDonough.
As the former Associate Dean of the J. Reuben Clark Law School and Library Director at Brigham Young University, she has taught public land law, mining law, environmental and conservation law, advocacy, Federal courts, and other classes. She continues to teach alternate dispute resolution at BYU. Constance was a fulltime professor at BYU 1982-2005 and earlier was an adjunct professor at the University of Utah College of Law and Utah State University College of Natural Resources. She has written and published in the areas of environmental and natural resources law, and environmental preservation of library collections.
Prior to that she was an associate, then partner, at a law firm in Salt Lake City where she specialized in environmental and resources law. She was Counsel to the President’s Council on Environmental Quality 1974-76. She was Vice-President of Rocky Mountain Industrial and Environmental Engineering, an environmental engineering consulting firm, 1984-1994.
Constance has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Energy & Natural Resources Law Section of the Utah State Bar, and was honored as a Renaissance Woman by the Utah Women’s Business Center.
Constance is a content advisor to the national digital library, Western Waters Digital Archive. She has served with American Inns of Court for fifteen years and has been a director of organizations ranging from the Utah Academic Library Consortium to the Utah Opera. While in academia, Constance participated as a contract negotiator and one of the purchasers of Geneva Steel. She was one of the founding directors of the company. |
