Clinton Rubin Biography :

Clinton T. Rubin, Ph.D., Research Committee Co-Director and Scientific Consultant, is a founder of Juvent and serves as a scientific/engineering consultant to Juvent Medical, Inc. Dr. Rubin was a founder of Exogen, Inc. and served as a technical/medical consultant to Exogen. He was chairman of Exogen's Scientific Advisory Panel. Dr. Rubin’s research into noninvasive, non-pharmacological intervention to control osteoporosis was referenced in National Geographic’s January 2001 article about surviving space travel. His studies show that the application of extremely low level strains to animals and humans will increase bone formation, and thus may represent the much sought after anabolic stimulus in bone.

Dr. Rubin was instrumental in the development of the DMT technology and is the inventor or co-inventor of eight United States patents and two international patents (Patent Cooperation Treaty [PCT]) related to that technology. He is Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Professor of Orthopaedics at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and Director of the New York Science, Technology and Academic Research (NYSTAR) Center for Advanced Technology in Medical Biotechnology. He has focused his research efforts on the role of physical (mechanical/electrical) stimuli in the regulation and repair of skeletal tissues, and in particular how mechanical signals represent anabolic stimuli to bone tissue. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Biological and Medical Engineers, and a recipient of the Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation, two Kappa Delta Awards from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the John Charnley Award from the Hip Society, the Fuller Albright Award from the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, and the Giovanni Borelli Award from the American Society of Biomechanics. Dr. Rubin received his B.A. degree in Physiology from Harvard, and a Ph.D. in Anatomy from Bristol University in the U.K.
