Physical Therapy. Occupation therapy. speech language pathology. The Visiting Nurse Service of New York has 500 rehabilitation therapists - including Clifford Scott. An avid runner, clifford ranked in his age group in the triathlon and has run several marathons as an escort for blind, brain-damaged and amputee runners. I was introduced to the Visiting Nurse Service of New York through Roger Herr, the former rehab manager in Manhattan. He was an adjunct professor at NYU when I was a student there.
This wasn't my first career. I used to be in film and video production, working on documentaries, commercials and music videos. I felt I wanted more internal rewards, the kind you get from helping people. My first exposure to physical therapy came from an injury of my own. I'm a former triathlon and had my share of injuries. I though I might make a good physical therapist and I think I am right.
Why do I care? Because without VNSNY our patients would not have the capacity to become independent or live fuller lives. When you see someone a day after surgery unable to get out of bed, and then, thanks to your care, you see them walk out of their building, it's very exciting.
I'm proud to work for the Visiting Nurse Service of New York. They're the leaders in the game. I like being part of a team that helps improve the quality of someone's life. |
