Ms. Claudia Varela L. has been appointed Manager of Institutional Affairs of the Central Bank of Chile (CBC) as from April 2006.
She is a in business administration graduate from the University of Chile and has completed several courses in organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Studienzentrum Gerzensee (Switzerland).
Ms. Varela was previously Head of the Projects and International Affairs Department of the CBC´s Research Division (2001-2006).
She was an economic analyst and coordinator of the International Area of the International Analysis Department of the Bank from 1998 to 2000 and prior to that she was an economic adviser to the then Central Bank Board Member, Ms. María Elena Ovalle, in 1997.
In 1996 Ms. Varela was Head of the Monetary Area of the ResearchDepartment, after working as an economic analyst of the Economic Policy Advisory Unit from 1992 to 1995.
She first joined the Central Bank in June 1987 as an economic analyst at the Research Department where she worked until 1991.
Ms. Varela has taught at the Schools of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Chile and the Central University and has taken part in seminars and international meetings held at the Institute of International Finance (U.K.), the Federal Reserve in New York and the Chilean Center for Latin American studies (Cieplán).
She has produced several publications and research papers for organizations such as the Center for Latin American Monetary Studies (Cemla), the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) and the University of Chile. |
