Claude Gaty is currently the Vice President and Chef/Partner of Mon Ami Gabi restaurants. Mon Ami Gabi has four locations; 2300 Lincoln Park West in Chicago, 260 Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook, in Bethesda, Maryland, and in the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.
In few words, Chef Claude Gaty traces his culinary roots and passion to his youth. This native Parisian believes it was his education and early exposure to the culinary world that led him to pursue a career in the kitchen.
Claude Gaty was raised by his Alsatian grandmother, who worked in aristocratic households in France, including an apprenticeship in the Rothschild Chateau. Gaty's grandmother was in essence, his teacher. "I was exposed to fine food at an very early age," Gaty stated. The dishes he prepares reflect his background and experience with regional French cooking.
Chef Gaty relocated to the United States in 1977 where he trained in several kitchens before opening his own restaurant, La Bretagne, in Maui, Hawaii. La Bretagne allowed Chef/Owner Gaty to prepare foods influenced from his French origins, but with contemporary flair.
Years later, Chef Gaty came to Chicago, where he joined the Bistrot Zinc team, working side by side with Rene Bajeux, to open the restaurant and do what he loved most-prepare traditional French bistro fare.
Today, Chef Claude Gaty is a Chef/Partner for Mon Ami Gabi. He currently is stationed at the Las Vegas location. Mon Ami Gabi has made Gaty truly feel at home. "My philosophy is simple, 'be honest and love what you are doing'" states Gaty. It is at Mon Ami Gabi where Gaty continues to use genuine techniques and foods that he adores. |
