Christopher S. Gompper joined The South Financial Group in June 2005 as business line manager for treasury and merchant services with responsibility for sales, product management, and client services. He currently directs the Corporate Financial Services group, which includes international and foreign exchange, merchant services, private banking, treasury services, and wealth management.
Prior to joining The South Financial Group, Mr. Gompper was in charge of treasury management sales for AmSouth Bank across their six-state franchise. From 1997 to 2002, he managed treasury management sales for Wells Fargo Bank in the Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico markets. Prior to that, he served in a senior sales capacity with JP Morgan Chase covering the middle market and international banking segments in Houston, TX. Mr. Gompper began his banking career in 1982 in Austin, TX and has a broad range of experience in sales and operations having built and managed a cash management department for a predecessor bank of Wells Fargo in Austin, TX.
Mr. Gompper graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in financial management from Florida Southern while a player on their NCAA national championship baseball team. He has earned the permanent designation of Certified Cash Manager from the Association of Financial Professionals (AFP). He has served on the AFP committee to develop their Body of Knowledge examination and is a past board member of NCR’s National Financial Standards Committee.
