Representation of Defendants in Toxic Torts; White Collar Environmental Criminal Defense; Environmental Aspects of Real Estate Transactions; Environmental Permitting and Regulatory Compliance; Supplemental Environmental Projects; Water Rights. Mr. Williams focuses on all areas of environmental law with particular emphasis on toxic torts, administrative actions and citizens' suits. He has also assisted in defending criminal actions brought under environmental statutes. In addition, he regularly advises multiple industries on environmental compliance and permitting issues before the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Williams also assists the firm’s real estate and other corporate transaction practice groups to assess the environmental risks associated with business transactions. Representative Cases: United States of America v. McWane, Inc. et al., United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama (criminal Clean Water Act case). Katie Lowery, et al., v. Honewell International, Inc., et al., Circuit Court of Jefferson County, Bessemer Division (currently representing national industrial client in multiple toxic tort suits brought by 1000+ adjacent property owners). Currently representing pipeline company in multiple toxic tort suits brought by adjacent property owners. Currently representing defendant in Clean Water Act citizen suit alleging violations of state storm water regulations. Successfully negotiated the early closure of a RCRA Section 3013 Administration Order and represented client in fulfilling obligations under a separate RCRA Section 3007 Administration Order, both issued by EPA Region IV. Advised client and assisted in negotiating legislation affecting water withdrawal rights. Coordinated and evaluated environmental assessments conducted as part of the acquisition of a hazardous waste transportation company. Assisted in coordinating and advising client during multimedia environmental audits at all of client's manufacturing facilities. Prior To Maynard Cooper: Prior to attending law school and joining Maynard Cooper, Mr. Williams worked as a project manager for an environmental consulting firm in Birmingham, Alabama.
