Chris Womack oversees five important areas of the company: Corporate Communication, Economic Development, Environmental Affairs, Governmental and Regulatory Affairs and the Land Department. Womack joined Alabama Power in 1988 as Governmental Affairs Representative. He was named Assistant To the Vice President of Public Affairs in 1989 and Director of Community Relations in 1991. He was promoted to Vice President of Public Relations in 1993. Two years later, he was named Senior Vice President of Public Relations and Corporate Services. In 1998, Womack was named Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Chief People Officer of Southern Company. He became Senior Vice President, Fossil and Hydro Power in 2001 and assumed his current duties in 2006. Prior to joining Alabama Power, Womack worked for the U.S. House of Representatives as a legislative aide to Leon Panetta and as staff director for the U.S. House’s Subcommittee on Personnel and Police which was part of the Committee on House Administration. Womack is on the boards of INROADS, the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, a national trustee for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, The Nature Conservancy and is Chairman of the Communities in Schools Board of Directors. A native of Greenville, Ala., Womack holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in public administration from The American University. He attended the Stanford Executive Program.
