Christopher B. Begley is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Hospira, Inc., a global specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company. He was elected to the board of directors of Sara Lee Corporation in 2006 and serves on the Finance Committee.
Begley has been chief executive officer since Hospira was spun off from Abbott Laboratories in April 2004, and was named chairman of the board in May, 2007. Prior to Hospira, he was president of Abbott’s Hospital Products Division and was responsible for all divisional operations as well as establishing the future strategic direction for the business. Begley joined Abbott in 1986 and held positions of increasing responsibility that include senior vice president of chemical and agricultural products, vice president of AbbottHealthSystems and vice president of MediSense, Inc. Before Abbott, he was vice president of marketing for the V. Mueller Division of American Hospital Supply Corp.
He currently is a member of the boards of directors of Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, the Healthcare Leadership Council, the Executives’ Club of Chicago and AdvaMed; and a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club Foundation.
Begley earned a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University and a master’s degree in business administration from Northern Illinois University.
