Chris Johlie represents public and private sector employers in a wide range of labor and employment matters. His practice includes collective bargaining negotiations, arbitrations, strike planning, strike-related litigation, extensive litigation before the National Labor Relations Board, state and federal court labor and employment litigation, appellate and state Supreme Court argument. Chris also provides advice and counseling on a wide range of labor and employment matters, wage/hour and child labor issues, wrongful discharge cases, and personnel policy development and implementation.
He also devotes a significant amount of his practice to training. He has developed and delivered training programs on a wide variety of legal and human resource issues including sexual harassment, developing respectful workplace relationships, equal employment opportunity, effective human resource practices, labor law compliance and union relations. Chris has conducted training sessions for clients (from front-line supervisors to top management), as well as the Illinois Association of Park Districts, the Illinois Park and Recreation Association, and the Council on Education in Management.
Chris won a groundbreaking case before the Tennessee Supreme Court which established for the first time in Tennessee an employer's right to recover civil contempt damages against a union for strike-related violence and property damage. Overnite Transportation v. Teamsters Local 480, et. al., 172 S.W.3d 507 (Tenn. 2005).
He is admitted to the Illinois Bar and admitted to practice before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth and District of Columbia Circuits, as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois (including the Trial Bar) and the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Chris is a member of the Illinois and Public Employer Labor Relations Associations. He is also AV® Peer-Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Prior to its merger with Ford & Harrison he worked at Matkov Salzman in Chicago.
He is a volunteer attorney for the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation and has done pro bono work for the Cook County Public Guardian. For his efforts on behalf of sexually abused children Chris is a past recipient of the Public Guardian's Outstanding Volunteer Attorney Award.
