Professional Experience
Mr. Sweeney represents public and private sector clients in all aspects of labor and employment law. He has experience defending wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblower, and wage and hour claims and has represented clients in civil actions and administrative hearings as well as in arbitration and mediation.
Mr. Sweeney also has experience advising clients regarding all aspects of the union-management relationship from collective bargaining negotiations to handling of employee grievances through arbitration, as well as handling of various proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board.
Mr. Sweeney counsels clients on all facets of the employment relationship, including issues involving the establishment of employment policies and practices, pre-hiring and hiring activities, wage and hour compliance, employee discipline, medical and other leaves, and termination/post-termination matters.
Mr. Sweeney also counsels clients regarding workplace safety issues including the prevention of, and protection from, workplace violence or threats of workplace violence from current and former employees as well as other individuals involved with the workplace (customers, venders, contractors, etc.).
Mr. Sweeney also advises clients regarding the establishment and maintenance of appropriate policies and practices to protect company confidential and trade secret information. And he has experience advising clients responding to government and law enforcement requests for information.
From 1987 to 1993, Mr. Sweeney served in the United States Navy as a member of the SEAL Teams.
