Choon T. Chon, 59, is a vice president of Delphi Corporation and president of Delphi Asia Pacific. He is also a member of the Delphi Strategy Board, the company's top policy-making group. Additionally, he serves as the strategic customer champion for Delphi's Toyota, Honda, Isuzu and Nissan customer teams.
Chon began his professional career in 1976, when he joined the General Motors (GM) Research Labs in Warren, Mich., as an associate senior engineer. He then worked with Ford Motor Company as a principal staff engineer in the engineering and manufacturing staff from 1978 until 1988, when he joined the Chrysler Corporation as executive engineer of vehicle engineering.
Chon returned to Korea in 1995 to become an executive vice president and board member of Ssangyong Motor Co. In 1998, he joined Delphi as general director of Delphi Interior Systems, with responsibility for operations in Asia-Pacific. In 1999, he was given additional responsibilities as president of Delphi Korea. He was named to his current position effective November 1, 2000.
Chon earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Seoul National University in 1970. He earned a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Brown University in 1973. Chon also received a Ph.D. from Brown University in mechanical engineering in 1975. He is fluent in both English and Korean, and can also read Japanese.
Chon is a visiting professor at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. |
