He went on to suggest that mainstream hoteliers "look at Joie de Vivre as the mad scientist who's trying different formulas that the rest of the industry can buy into if the formula proves successful." Time magazine reiterated this by writing that "few boutique hotels are as genuine as those run by Joie de Vivre."
Chip has won numerous awards including Guerrilla Marketer of the Year from the American Travel Marketing Executives, Emerging Growth Company of the Year from the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, National Humanitarian Hospitality Company of the Year, and Northern California Entrepreneur of the Year from Ernst & Young. He was recently featured as one of Lodging magazine's 75 Most Influential Leaders in the Travel Industry.
A long-time San Francisco resident, Chip holds both a B.A. and M.B.A. from Stanford University. Prior to founding Joie de Vivre in 1987, Chip held positions with Bay West Group and Morgan Stanley. His philanthropic interests focus on at-risk teens and he is active as a board member of Glide Memorial Church.
Chip is the author of three books. The first The Rebel Rules: Daring to be Yourself in Business, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2001. His second book, Marketing That Matters, was released Oct. 2006. His third book, PEAK, was released in Sept. 2007. Part memoir, part theory and part application, PEAK tells the story of Joie de Vivre’s remarkable success and transformation providing real world examples from other leading companies including Google, Harley-Davidson and Apple, and showing readers how to bring about similar changes in their work and personal lives. |
