Cheryl Dell was named Publisher and President of The News Tribune, a McClatchy Newspaper, in December of 2004. She is a veteran of the newspaper industry and has been with the McClatchy Newspaper Company for eight years. Prior to that Cheryl worked for newspapers in Northern California and Texas.
Since moving to Tacoma, Cheryl has become a member of the University of Washington-Tacoma’s Advisory Board, the Executive Council, the Washington Roundtable, Pacific Northwest Newspaper Association, and the Pierce County Hunger Walk. She was also recently appointed to head Inland Press Association’s Retail Advertising Committee.
Cheryl has been an active member of the communities in which she’s lived and has been on the Board of such organizations as Tri-City Industrial Development Council, Community Roundtable, Friends of the Hanford Reach (Founding Board Member), United Way, Rotary, and Junior League, to name a few. She has also won a number of illustrious awards including a City of Kennewick Proclamation designating Cheryl Dell Day (December 17, 2004), Woman of the Year Communications (1995), Publisher’s Award (1994), and Distinguished Leadership Award (1992).
Cheryl began her career with McClatchy at the Modesto Bee where she was Advertising Director for two years until she was promoted to Vice President of Sales and Marketing for their sister paper, the Fresno Bee. In 2000, her career brought her to Washington where she became Publisher of The Tri-City Herald for four years before joining The News Tribune in Tacoma in 2004.
Cheryl attended California State University in Sacramento, and her early career took root in that part of California. She is married to Brad Dell, Executive Director of the Washington (State) Children’s Reading Foundation. |
