Cheng Tan is an associate and European trade mark attorney at the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery UK LLP, based in its London office. She is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, where her practice focuses on all aspects of procurement, protection and enforcement of trade marks and designs. Cheng has gained qualifications from the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and is well established in the practice of European and international trade mark prosecution.
Cheng spearheads the UK and European trade mark prosecution practice from London and advises on worldwide trade mark and design management, protection and prosecution. Her experience includes advising on risk assessment, enforcement, commercial exploitation and portfolio management of all aspects of Intellectual Property rights. She also handles domain name registrations and disputes.
Her industry experience includes finance, technology, media, pharmaceutical, motorsports, computer games, entertainment, IT, food and beverages and retail industry.
Cheng is a practising Solicitor of England and Wales. She is a qualified Barrister-at-Law of Middle Temple, UK and an Advocate Solicitor of the High Court of Malaysia. She is an associate Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA) and a Law Committee Member of the European Community Trademark Association (ECTA).
Cheng regularly contributes articles to various trade mark publications including Trade Mark World and World Trade Mark Law Report, a recent example includes "Law after Dyson ruling still not transparent" February 2007. She is a contributory editor to the Trade Mark Law ( Self Study) Course of Informa Professional Academy.

Seven years experience in the computer games industry, including representing major Japanese and UK games companies. She has managed the European trade mark portfolios from the merger of the Japanese companies
Bringing opposition actions against third party trade mark applications and defending applications. She is experienced in providing oral representation on behalf of clients before the UK Trade Marks Registry on ex-parte and inter-partes actions
