Charlie is executive vice president, principal and member. He joined 2nd Generation in 2000 and is responsible for working with 2nd Generation's investment partners and co-investors in portfolio companies. Charlie has over 30 years experience and has been involved in a significant variety of positions and institutions during his career including banking, investments, consulting, venture capital and private equity. He is the president of our broker/dealer subsidiary, BrightChoice Financial, LLC, and has FINRA registration in series 7, 63, and 24.
As a regional vice president and managing director at Commonfund, he was responsible for developing and managing the firm's major institutional investment management relationships for universities, colleges and private schools in the Southeastern United States. This amounted to over billion in assets under management and nearly 100 relationships. He provided investment advice on investment objective setting, spending policy, asset allocation, manager selection and overall investment planning. He also recommended specific Commonfund investment funds to these institutions in both marketable and private areas.
During his time as vice president at Massey Burch, Charlie was responsible for raising venture capital from both institutional and individual investors in the Southeast. He also participated in the management and financing decisions of the portfolio companies that were funded.
At Vanderbilt, he was the treasurer and chief investment officer. His major responsibilities were to develop and implement a comprehensive investment program for the endowment funds administered by the Treasurer's office. He evaluated, selected and monitored investment managers for equities, fixed income, international, real estate, venture capital and private equity.
Charlie was a regional director and senior consultant at Meidinger (now William M. Mercer) and provided services in the areas of actuarial and employee benefit plan consulting. Specifically, he was involved in the development of asset allocation strategies for the employee benefit plan assets of major institutional clients through the utilization of actuarial projections and investment modeling simulations.
While at Hilliard Lyons as vice president, he dealt with high net worth individuals and mid-size institutions in the area of investment management. He performed fundamental, technical and market analysis to determine the selection of securities for a wide variety of investment objectives.
In his position at Bankers Trust Company, he was involved in the commercial lending officer development program, where he marketed bank services to national and local bank customers. He also proposed and presented credit reports, financial analysis and lending recommendations to senior loan officers.
Charlie has served on various boards and committees during his career, with the Community Foundation of Louisville being one of the most recent, and is engaged in tennis, travel and various community activities in Louisville. |
