Charles is an at-large director representing the Central Region. He holds the position of Immediate Past Chair of the Board and as such serves on the Board’s Executive Committee.
In his position of Senior Vice President and Corporate Director of Community Development for Regions Financial Corporation, Charles is responsible for coordinating, at the corporate level, the management of Community Development and Community Investment activities in the Regions Bank eight-state region. Charles directs the resources of Regions to enhance community development and rural development projects, innovative small business loans, loans to minority and women-owned businesses and for neighborhood commercial development.
Charles has been appointed to many state and federal boards including the Arkansas State Police Commission; Federal Small Business Advisory Council; Arkansas IOLTA Foundation; Arkansas Repertory Theater; and Advisory Board of the National Institute of Health of Washington, D.C. Charles was the first African American appointed to the Board of Arkansas Industrial Development Commission where he served as Chairman of the Marketing Committee with oversight of the Brussels, Taipei and Tokyo office of AIDC. Charles has also been a member of two trade missions, 1985 and 1988, to Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Charles was born in Sweet Home, Arkansas. He is the son of the Reverend Frank J. and Mrs. Ola F. Stewart. He is the father of two, Sherri and Christopher. |
